The “Doppeldecker” can also be built and flown with only the lower wing, which changes its name to “Tiefdecker”

Build

Fuselage

Joining the fuselage sides, attention that there is a left and right side, the left being a bit longer than the right one to get the motor side pull correctly.

The central box is built first and glued to one side

The sides are joined and reinforced with 5x5mm balsa stringers

Gearmount added

Fuselage bulkhead and firewall installed

When glueing in the last spar the stringers have to be sanded to shape

The rear spar is positioned using the wing holder, but don’t yet glue the holder!

The cockpit spars are glued in at a slight angle. To get the right position use the upper fuselage sheetings

Once this is sanded, rest of the fuselage is planked with 2mm balsa

Stabilizer

Puzzling fun with CA glue

The two horizontal stab fins are then joined together with a 5x5mm hardwood stick

Wing

Only the lower wing gets ailerons

Adding 5mm wide sticks of 2mm balsa to the ribs

The rest of the wing is then sheete with 2mm balsa

In the middle a piece of plywood is added as reinforcement where the wing is screwed to the fuselage

After a lot of sanding

Everything put together, here in the “Tiefdecker” version, where I increased the wingspan slightly
